Poor Brittany Spears. I know she's kinda white trash and kinda stupid and a lot of fun to make fun of, but can you imagine having a minor household incident become front-page news? MSN ran this story about her son falling out of his highchair. In addition, lil Brit has been vilified on the front page of Star magazine which blasted her with a headline "Brit's Baby Fractures Skull!" In reality, the incident was quite minor, but Brit and hubby K-Fed did seek medical treatment, covering their bases. No doubt they didn't want to serve any more foul-fodder for tabloids to lobby their way. So, they twist the story to indicate that Baby Sean had a brain clot. The tabloid has a brain clot if you ask me.
This story makes me angry for a number of reasons. It's not easy being a first time mom. You make a lot of mistakes. You eat a lot of crow for formerly-expressed opinions on child-rearing. You realize that you've got a LOT to learn. So give the girl a break! An accident occurred and she did the responsible thing. She sought treatment for her kid, and he was fine. Heck, one time I dropped Emily on her head onto cement from a standing position, and I never had her evaluated. She just seemed fine. Now I look back and wonder, what the hell was I thinking? Yet I consider myself a pretty good mom. As nasty as she is, Brit did the best she could under the circumstances. She deserves our sympathy and understanding, not our scorn.
But the REAL reason this story makes me boil is because it is downright irresponsible journalism to report such exaggerated accounts of a minor accident that happens in homes everyday across America. It is irresponsible, and it is dirty. It besmirches the journalistic integrity that so many journalists are struggling to maintain. And the editor that allowed that story to run should be fired. Making a journalistic decision to run a false report just to boost sales is unconscionable.
And anyone who exults in the exploitation of a young mom and an unfortunate household accident deserves a wedgie. I mean, it's not like she was dangling her son over a balcony by its leg. Sha!

allkinds of people make their living by exployting famous people....its in their character to get that money in their pocket and get the story printed so their name can be recognized and they can charge more for their stories....Im sure you are aware of that , however its not right and intill people stop buying magazines that print that junk or papers that employ those kinds of people we will be subject to such stories....how about the guy that was wanting hush money to keep stories about a person out of his reports....geez.....thats the calaber of the kinds of people ij that trade...
I know I'm sorta wacked for even getting frustrated about it - it's like saying there shouldn't be mean people on this earth. Hey, there will always be bad people doing bad stuff, and we just have to accept that and try to be different people ourselves. I guess what just really bothered me was the fact that they'd pick on this young, inexperienced mom and then smear all journalists in the process. Cock and bullocks!
Ya know..if they wanted a good story..they should have interviewed my Dad..oh say..29 years ago after he drove with his daughter on the crook of his arm while going down the road and she fell out. Explains alot right?
The whole thing with Mrs. Fed is that they want to prove that Mr. and Mrs. are not adult enough to take care of a kid. It's kinda sad, every kid has been dropped on their heads, or somehow been accidendtly hurt.
I think celeb kids have more mental problems that physical ones.
Tabloid editors have very little integrity when it comes down to sales. Britney + baby + hospital drama = sales.
Its the readership that can effect that equation by being discerning, but then if you look at the readership stats. for the tabloids there's the answer. Isn't the average reading age of a tabloid reader 13.
Hear, Hear, Bunny!!!
My poor cub has had an emergency room visit or two herself.
All I care to read is "Free Katie!" articles. Now, THERE'S some real tabloid fodder.
since I told myself I need to lose weight I have been eating lots more....figure that one out...I guess I am getting (ready) to diet...and want to get filled up first....? any ideas of how to start and stay started ...? no tape on mouth or pills to make me sleep all the time...those are not good ideas...
Bonnie: Yes, we've all turned our head just at the moment our little one was getting ready to play SuperMan. Brit's not the first. Now, that Tomkitty situation...I'm not so sure I could turn my head from THOSE tabloid spitfires!
Grandma: I JUST read an article about that. Diet like a man! That means not depriving yourself, making significant yet small changes (i.e. no more ice cream from Skoops every other day!). And exercise! Now, let's see if I can follow my own advice! ;)
You're right, but we all know how tabloids are.
BTW, were you dropped on your head too? It could explain some things about you... :P
"It is downright irresponsible journalism". Yes. Absolutely.
I rant about the media all the time to my family and friends and to our newspaperman...who promptly told me that it's people's fault, that given good news or bad news, people would buy the bad news.
