B.Y.O.B.

WHY DO THEY ALWAYS SEND THE POOR?!

Barbarisms by Barbaras
With pointed heels.
Victorious, victorious, kneel.
For brand new spankin' deals.
You depend on our protection,
Yet you feed us lies from the table cloth.
La la la la la la la la la,

Everybody’s going to the party have a real good time.
Dancing in the desert blowing up the sunshine.

Kneeling roses disappearing,
Into Moses’ dry mouth,
Breaking into Fort Knox,
Stealing our intentions,
Hangars sitting dripped in oil,
Crying FREEDOM!
Handed to obsoletion,
Still you feed us lies from the table cloth.
La la la la la la la la la,

Blast off,
its Party time,
And we don't live in a fascist nation,
Blast off ,
its party time,
And where the f*ck are you?…..
Yeah
Where the f*ck are you?
Why don’t presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don’t presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
THEY ALWAYS SEND THE POOR!
THEY ALWAYS SEND THE POOR!

With love to George,
-System of a Down

I am especially upset today as Paul Hackett, a lawyer and a marine corps veteran who just returned from service in Iraq, lost the special election for Rob Portman's empty congressional seat to the repulican contender, Jean Schmidt. She has been in the state lawmaker ring in Ohio for sometime now and she's up Bush's ass something crazy.

The good thing though? She only won the election by 3500 votes. That's a pretty slim margin considering this is a predominantly republican district and it gives me hope that Americans really are paying attention and they are tired of the demise their president is leading them to.

This makes me want to work that much harder to make sure that democracy is being served in this country and our leaders are held accountable. Ms. Schmidt can expect to be hearing a lot from me until her attempts to re-elect next year.

No more blood for oil.

Wait a minute, I served in the army with a senator's son... of course, he was the only one in my unit that was able to get discharged before Desert Storm (or maybe that was because of all the drugs.)

And your point is...what?

I big A-MEN to Melly for her impassioned insights regarding the degeneration of the political climate in OH and the US in general. Chill Daddy mentioned in his blog (www.relaxdaddio.blogspot.com) that the current debates raging between the extreme left and the extreme right is non-productive and only amounts to each side wanting to be "right." I say that the polarization of both parties is a bad thing for the entire US and that - I agree with Chilly here - it is common ground that will enable us to knit back together as a nation. However, the right wingers are dogmatically adamant about their views, and even worse, feel divinely sanctioned to continue their destructive course. I quake when I think of our future. A culture war is brewing. I predict that if a draft ensues thanks to the mishandling of a Very Bad Idea - the Iraqi War - a huge segment of the American population will rise up and kick the right wingers where the sun don't shine. And then what will happen to their Bible-thumping agenda?

One more thought: America is not a theocracy. We are a capitalistic country, and despite 'truth, democracy and the American way,'it is the capitalistic interests that REALLY run this country. How else could we explain GWB even being NOMINATED for presidency?!?!?

CAFTA passed, I saw it in the paper right along with the news about all the latest factory closings and layoffs. Why are our borders not being protected? Because big business needs lots of cheap labor. But who in the hell can afford to eat at fast food joints when they lost their jobs? And why do they keep raising taxes and fees and prices to make up for slower sales when the slower sales are due to people losing their jobs and they can't pay the lower prices, let alone the higher ones? Just askin'.

Thank you, mm. Just another example of how the rich and powerful make laws to benefit the rich and powerful, leaving the common man to feel the brunt of the blow.

The political atmosphere today is frightening...never have so many stupid and destructive decisions been made and with such impunity. I have come to believe that the president is no more than a pawn for big business and I no longer think that is limited to strictly American big businesses, either. We have always known that much goes on behind the scenes, and yet we believed that it would somehow end up being to our benefit so "OH WELL." What is going on behind the scenes is no longer for the benefit of Americans, no matter what the mouth might say.
