Park it.

There was this vehicle on the highway today that had a hand-printed sign in the window: "Park your Hummer." I would have honked and gave him the thumbs-up if he hadn't been driving a truck.

Which brought me to the point of realization. It really isn't the Hummers on the road that drives America's black hole oil consumption. It is the sheer volume of commuters. You remember...we're the ones who took our bourgoisie ass out of the city to make a better life for our children. Yeah, we're the ones to blame. So, here's the sign I'd like to slap on my back:

SAVE AN IRAQI AND RIDE YOUR BIKE TO WORK.

Course, I'd look like an ass if I put it in my back window. Sha.

One thing that drives most of us Europeans crazy is getting into the parking lot of one of your supermarkets and see those folks that leave the motor running while they go shopping... but I guess there must be a perfectly good explanation for that.

Yes there is and here it is: we Americans are waaaaaay too busy to waste critical seconds starting our car. There are people waiting for us (to make up our minds at the drive through), people we must see (the bill collector), and things we must do (catch the latest episode of Rockstar INXS). There's just no time to turn off the car. Don't you see?!?!

Hey, I don't know if you watch Bill Maher or not, but he had Chris Rock on the other day and Chris Rock was complaining - repeatedly - about the high gas prices. The subject had turned to the statement by Mexico's Presidente Vicente Fox that Mexicans take jobs that even blacks in America won't do. At one point Chris Rock said - and this is the actual quote:
"If the gas prices don't go down soon, I'm going to have to park my SUV and ride me a Mexican to work."

I knew there had to be a reason...
And that Chris Rock fellow is a full time prick, right?

Oh, you'd better turn on the word verification on your blog, spammers are hitting on you hard.

Chris Rock gave a terrible performance. He had one joke - the gas prices. He's capable of much better. I think the Mexican joke was an attempt to get SOMEONE to pay attention to him. I completely dropped jaw and expected to see it splayed over every tabloid in the land. But, I guess either no one was paying attention or no one gives a damn. I've heard nothing about it anywhere.

As for the blammers, yes, they are hitting me rather hard. And here I thought my little blog disclaimer was working. Grr!

I want a sticker on the back of my car that says, "Happiness is a lumpy boa"

I say save your bike and walk, no wait... save your feet and don't work!

BJ fan: I really DO NOT want to know what you want that lumpy boa for....

Chill: I think I'll take your advice! And when the whole family starts talking bad about me I can simply explain that I was taking YOUR advice and...they'll call you a genius and exclaim, "Why didn't WE think of that? Oh, that's right...because we aren't nearly as wise and as wonderful as The Chill." I rather like not working. Thanks, Daddy-O!

We all started buying larger and larger vehicles to transport our expanding families as the popularity of country music grew with its hats that never see the range, boots that never touch manure and of course the big trucks we have to contend with.

Now there are millions of light trucks carrying nothing in the box accept for some empty beer cans, a shovel (new and unused) and the occasional collection of smelly fishing tackle.

Once the over qualified transporters filled the expressways we quickly realized that should we tangle with one of the beasts we and our family would be crumpled up like Williams home work assignment page.

So....we buy ever larger vehicles for the added weight which brings with it an increased measure of safety and a smoother ride. What are we to do?...I would drive a go-cart to work if it weren't for the behemoths whizzing around like its Sunday at Darlington Intl. Raceway.

I have wished on stars that the Gub'Mint would provide tax incentives and guaranteed loans (like a student loan) if a person would be willing to commute on battery power (hybrid cars) I have a four wheel drive for the winter but would rather drive something more fuel stingy during better weather.

We should all do what we can to save fuel. I think about the hippy days....everyone drove a fuel efficient VW or hitch hiked (early form of car pooling).

These days you may never be seen again if you hitchhike...nobody but a serial killer picks up hitchhickers anymore.

Perhaps if we institute the death penalty for traffic offenses the herd will be slimmed down to a level where gas prices drop and jobs will become available.

Just a thought....
